Rehabilitation and clinical physiologist, Dr. Brian Levitt, Psy.D., C.Psych., recently provided a convincing analysis of the method health professionals should be using to determine whether a victim of a car accident has suffered a “marked impairment” in accordance with s.2(1.1)(g) of the SABS.
Dr. Levitt is known for his expertise, research and writing about the definition of catastrophic impairment, in particular, the use of the AMA Guides as they related to Ontario’s SABS legislation. Presented last November at the 25th Annual Joint Insurance Seminar in Hamilton, Ontario, his paper is a scientific viewpoint that makes a significant contribution for interpreting the AMA Guidelines, and how access to accident benefits should be determined from a medical point of view.
Dr. Levitt is a partner of Kaplan Psychologists where he manages the Assessment Centre. He is often called as an expert witness and currently chairs the Standards and Guidelines committee of the Canadian Academy of Psychologists in Disability Assessment.
